For the last few years we’ve been talking about doing a live version of ‘Emmanuel (God Is With Us Now)’ that I (Luke) wrote in the lead up to Christmas 5 years ago. You can listen to the original recording here (please excuse the dodgy drums). I am genuinely not sure how but for some reason this song is by far the most viewed video on my YouTube channel, far surpassing my Britney Spears cover!

So anyway, we decided that 2020 was definitely going to be the year that we would record this song and share it at Christmas. As the months of lockdown and various tier restrictions went on it became apparent that the ambient, spacious, low-lit live recording that we envisaged really wasn’t going to happen.

Rather than waiting yet another year we decided to do the best we could from the comfort and safety of our own homes. Perhaps at a time when we are so physically isolated the significance of God’s fulfilled promise to dwell among His people (first in the person of Jesus Christ and now by the Holy Spirit) is even more essential to be reminded of.

Anyway, we loved putting together this video despite it being very different from what we planned, and we’ve loved seeing people connect with it, respond to it and be blessed by it. We hope it encourages you and that you know the miracle of God drawing close to you as you watch and listen.
